Volunteer of the Month – Williams Prempeh Osei

SPOTLIGHT on Williams

Educational Background

Williams attended basic school at Best Child School. He then continued to Nyinahin Catholic Senior High. In Senior High School, he was the best Business Student for 2011/2012 Academic Year. He pursued a BSc in Information Technology at University of Education, Winneba – Kumasi campus.

Passion and Impact

He used to see Mathematics as one of the easiest subjects being taught at the basic school level. However, children of the 21st century see it as a difficult subject. The first time he heard of Kids and Math was through Facebook. He was amazed at how Kids and Math had the aim of helping kids to really understand all what Mathematics is about and how it relates to real life situations by having an Outreach Program which takes place every week. He decided to also make an impact by becoming a member of Kids and Math. He then pioneered the Kumasi Chapter.

Since then, Prempeh has been serving the noble organisation as the Kumasi Chapter President with the role of monitoring, controlling, and administering activities in the chapter. This has brought the organisation very far. One main impact his Chapter has made is their outreach at Asem Boys School. Williams has led several teaching sessions at Asem Boys School. He has also been considering a number of potential beneficiary schools to find out problems that Kids and Math could help solve with respect to mathematics.

Future Prospects

Williams’ vision is to cause an increase in the total number of students’ interested in mathematics. He also wants students to see Math as the easiest subject in school. He also seeks to help reduce the frequency of Math failure, specifically in the B.E.C.E
